MiLB Intelligence
READINESS
Rookie-Level Assignment
The official assignment is Rookie. IQDugout displays the assignment as development context, not as an MLB-readiness grade.
CALL-UP OUTLOOK
Not Determined
Level alone cannot support an individual call-up judgment. Performance, health, roster status, role fit, and organization need would also have to be evaluated.
PROJECTION
Shortstop
This is the player's currently listed role or position context, not a prediction of a future MLB role.
DEVELOPMENT RISK
Not Graded
Development risk is not graded from league level or draft year alone.
Ceiling is withheld until supported player-specific scouting or performance evidence is available.
Floor is withheld because a league assignment does not establish a player's likely outcome.
Organization rank: Unavailable from current official MLB data
No exact or broad ETA is shown without supported individual performance, development, health, and roster evidence.
DEVELOPMENT TREND
Early Pro Development
The current official assignment is Rookie. Assignment level is factual context and is not treated as proof of promotion readiness.
IMPROVEMENT AREAS
- Evaluate sustained performance with level and age context
- Review role fit, health, roster status, and organization need
SCOUT REPORT
High school players in the northeast are often late risers simply because it takes a while for the weather to warm up and for them to get going. Add in a winter sport like basketball to delay being seen as another reason for a player to be a bit of a pop-up guy. And when that player didn't play on the summer showcase circuit, they can really seem like they come out of nowhere. Plunkett checks off all three boxes, but the New York prepster's name was coming up more frequently in scout chatter as the season moved closer to the Draft. An athletic 6-foot-3, Plunkett certainly looks the part. The right-handed hitter has a smooth swing that is currently line-drive oriented, but it's easy to project plenty more raw power to come because his frame should be able to add plenty of strength as he matures. He'll show it off in batting practice at times, but there's not that much impact in games to date. Plunkett's athleticism also helps him defensively. He looks like he could stick at shortstop for a while, with enough arm and more to come, good actions and solid instincts. He might look like a collection of 50 grades, but that's a solid big leaguer, and there could be a lot more in the tank. He's committed to Binghamton for college, but there's been some buzz that he could be like a Matthew Ferrara type, who was an over-slot ninth-round signing by the Phillies in 2025, or even Michael Oliveto, a surprise supplemental first-round pick by the Tigers last year.
