One of the more athletic and projectable pitchers in the 2026 high school crop, Putnam got a late start on the diamond this spring because he had to finish the basketball season first. His fastball touched 97 mph in his second outing, and while his breaking ball and control have been inconsistent, his arm talent is undeniable. He could take off once he focuses on baseball full-time and gets pro instruction, and his upside could land him in the top three rounds. When he's on, Putnam can work at 94-96 mph with armside run on his fastball, which has ranged from 88-98 during his senior season. Gatorade's 2026 Missouri high school player of the year, he can flash some solid upper-70s sliders with quality depth, though his breaker lacks reliability and needs more power. His mid-80s changeup has nice fade and is a more dependable offering. Putnam has a quick arm and a 6-foot-5 frame with plenty of room to add strength, so his pitches should gain more velocity in the future. The Tennessee recruit moves down the mound very well, creating extension that allows his stuff to get on hitters quicker than they expect. He'll scatter his pitches at times but has the ingredients for at least average control as he gains more experience.
