SCOUT REPORT

While it can be challenging to see and evaluate players from eastern Canada, Omidi has been a bit of a fixture in showcases, from things like the East Coast Pro Showcase and Area Code Games to playing the last two years for the Canadian Junior National Team against professional competition in Minor League Spring Training and in the Dominican Republic. Hailing from the same Ontario high school that produced one-time big leaguer Jordan Balazovic, Omidi has shown some potential, particularly with the bat, while also raising some overall questions about his profile. With a boxy, 6-foot-1 build, Omidi has shown off some strength from the left side of the plate. There have been times where excellent contact skills have been on display, but some swing-and-miss concerns did pop up against some of the better Minor League arms he faced with Team Canada. There is definite raw pop for him to tap into, with strong hands and wrists, and he'll show off lofty power in batting practice. Omidi is an average runner, though speed isn't a big part of his game, and he has an average arm, but where he fits defensively long-term is an unanswered question. It's unlikely he'll be a shortstop at the next level, lacking the quick first step or range to play there, with some scouts thinking he can handle second and others believing third, which he's played a lot more of lately, is his best chance to stay on the dirt, with a corner outfield spot a possibility if the infield isn't working. Omidi loves to hit, and it will be his bat that teams will be interested in signing away from his commitment to Kentucky.
