SCOUT REPORT

Both of Sorrell's grandfathers played in the Majors: Billy Sorrell, an outfielder who shared a 1966 Topps rookie card with Ferguson Jenkins, and Tom Griffin, who led the big leagues in strikeout rate (9.6 per nine innings) as an Astros rookie in 1969. Caden's all-around tools could have made him a top-three-rounds pick as a Texas high schooler in 2023, but he went unselected because he wanted to attend Texas A&M. The starting left fielder on the Aggies' 2024 Men's College World Series runners-up as a freshman, he has been one of the most productive sluggers in the Southeastern Conference the last two seasons. Sorrell has the bat speed and strength to provide plenty of power and that's exactly what he tries to do, focusing on launching balls in the air to his pull side. That approach can get him in trouble, as his left-handed stroke becomes too long and uphill at times, but it also could pay off with 25-30 homers per season. He chases too many pitches and swings through more in-zone fastballs than he should, leading to some worries about his hitting ability at the next level. Sorrell displays plus speed when healthy but isn't terribly aggressive on the bases. In his first two college seasons, he played on the outfield corners in deference to 2025 first-rounder Jace LaViolette, but he's getting the job done in center field this spring with his quickness and instincts. If he moves off center in pro ball, his plus arm strength and offensive production will profile nicely in right field.
