SCOUT REPORT
One of the better sophomore-eligible prospects in the 2026 Draft, Wentz offers power from both sides of the plate and has helped his cause by improving his conditioning and athleticism. But he also has flummoxed scouts with his inability to stop chasing or do much damage against breaking balls and changeups. Viewed as a potential second-round choice entering 2026, he may have to wait a couple of more rounds to hear his name called. Wentz's combination of bat speed and strength gives him at least plus raw power, and he could tap into more of it if he became more selective and pulled more balls in the air. More effective from the left side, he destroys fastballs but scuffles against everything else, and his aggressiveness leaves him especially vulnerable to changeups. He draws his share of walks because pitchers are reticent to challenge him, but he needs to tone down his approach. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Wentz is moving better as sophomore and displaying fringy speed. He has split his college career between third base and second base, and his limited range and solid arm strength fit better at the hot corner. He's an erratic defender at both positions, so he may wind up on an outfield corner.
