SCOUT REPORT

Randall was a standout at Northern California high school power De La Salle (a program known for producing lefty Kyle Harrison), but he pulled his name out of the 2023 Draft because he was intent on attending UCLA. After pitching infrequently as a freshman, Randall has been a mainstay in the Bruins' bullpen. Though he's never closed, he's shown his power stuff can dominate top college hitters, leading him to an eye-popping 16.5 K/9 rate and .142 batting average against in his junior year. A 6-foot-4 right-hander, Randall is all about his fastball. To say he's heater-heavy would be a huge understatement as he threw the pitch -- averaging close to 97 mph and touching triple digits -- 89 percent of the time this spring. It is an extremely effective pitch, but not just because of the velocity. It elicited a 36 percent miss rate this season thanks to a combination of low release and extension to create upshoot arm side life. He basically throws one secondary pitch, an 89-92 mph slider-cutter hybrid that can be effective because it's hard, but it's also short and some think he'll need to come up with something that features more depth at the next level. The other challenge Randall faces is his ability to throw strikes, as he walked 5.4 per nine over his college career at UCLA. He won't need pinpoint command to be a big league reliever, but a team taking him will hope he can find a little better feel for the zone and add shape to his secondary offering in order to grow into a high-leverage role.
